How to achieve roasting consistency - warm up and BBP
1. Coffee Roaster WarmUp Session
The most important task of a roaster is to ensure that each batch turns out exactly the same as the one that came before it.
The first step in mastering consistent roasting is to correctly warm up your machine before roasting the first batch. The goal of an effective warm-up procedure is to ensure that the first batch of the day is identical to the last.
All roasting machines need a warm-up procedure of at least half an hour, and larger machines take longer. A very large machine — with a capacity of 60 kilograms or above — may need as much as 90 minutes of warm-up to achieve consistent results. An effective warm-up procedure is essential for all types of roasters.
This is a common warmup procedure recommended by professional baristas, you can refer:
1. Bring your coffee roaster BT up to charge temp +20℃(+40℉)by using high gas pressure(or high firepower)
2. Let your coffee roaster idle for 25-30 minutes while keeping BT up to charge temp +20℃(+40℉), depends on your roaster machine size and weather, you can prolong it to about 30-45min.
3. Lower gas pressure / firepower , let the BT drops to +5℃-10℃ in approx 5-10min.
4. Perform BBP (between batches procedure)
5. Charge beans, starting roasting
If your warmup is successful, the first batch will behave like every other batches.
Our TY-TECH coffee roaster allows one-touch warmup, please follow our demo video, thank you very much !
Demo: if charge beans temp is 180℃, then we warmup by 200℃, you can set STOP BT at 200℃, as above warmup procedure step 1, by higher gas pressure about 1.5kpa.
